Use the Genealogy Collection

The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials including local family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.

The Library provides the following for genealogical research

  • Heritage Quest, an online database that includes census, books in full-text, PERSI indexing of historical periodicals, and Freedmen's Bank records
  • Everton's Genealogical Helper
  • Mayflower Quarterly
  • Family Tree Maker
  • Historical microfilm and CD-ROM versions of local newspapers
  • Madison County probate, birth, and death records
  • Madison County cemetery records
  • Madison County census records
  • Passenger & Immigration List Index
  • Numerous family histories compiled by local genealogists
  • 12 internet stations on which to search databases, such as GenWeb
  • A collection of printed materials, some of which can be checked out for a 2-week period, and others for in-Library-use only.

Equipment available for your research

  • 1 microfilm/fiche reader/printer (prints cost $.25 each)
  • 2 microfilm/fiche readers
  • 1 digital microfilm reader/printer

Due to limited staff, the Library cannot conduct your research for you.  Please contact the Madison County Genealogy Society or a private researcher.
