Use a Computer

The library has public computers with Internet access.

Internet Computers
Card holders and visitors have access to 11 internet-connected computers which may be used to access email and browse the Internet.  Please ask at the service desk and a computer will be assigned to you.  The library has 2 tables of computers.  Several computers have internet access only, while others are equipped with Word, Excel, PageMaker, PowerPoint, and other programs.

  • You are required to check in at the circulation counter, showing your library card, before using the computers.
  • Only one person can use the computer at a time, except for a child who may be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Use will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Reservations are not available.
  • Persons will be limited to one hour if others are waiting to use the computers.
  • Internet use is restricted to once each day, so all may have access.
  • Persons using the internet access computers should be knowledgeable in basic computer operation.  Only minimal instruction, as time permits, can be offered by the staff.
  • The Winterset Public Library cautions against giving out your personal information.  Customers assume all risk/liability when divulging a credit card number or other personal information on the internet.  The Library will not be responsible for charges, damages, or injuries resulting from such use.
  • Inappropriate use of a computer can be a felony.  A copy of the Iowa Code 716A is available for your review.  Please read the Iowa Code so you will be advised concerning computer damage and theft and the penalties.   ((insert link to Code))
  • Persons using the internet must use the equipment provided by the library.  Laptop computers may not be connected to our internet line.
  • Customers will be charged 10 cents for printing on our self-service printer.
  • The Library's internet access is not filtered.  Parents are given the opportunity to allow or disallow access to the internet when they register their children under 14 years of age for a library card.  The librarians on duty will not censor or be responsible for information sought by children in the library.  What the child views on the internet is the sole responsibility of the parents.
